Actually, even though China is geographically massive and spans enough area to theoretically have five different time zones, the whole country officially operates on a single one. It is called Beijing Time, or UTC+8. I remember when I first flew into the region, it was pretty confusing to realize that even way out in the western parts, the clocks were synced with the capital.
It can be a bit wild for the locals living in places like Xinjiang. Since the sun rises and sets much later there compared to the east, people often end up keeping their own unofficial "local time" just to manage their daily lives properly, even if all the official business and transport schedules run on that single national standard. It is definitely one of those things you don't really get until you see how it affects people's actual routines.
