Any advice for a new kitten owner?

"I'd suggest for the first month or so you own her keep her in one room that's her room so she feels safe there and you can keep her away from anything that might be dangerous. I am not certain if this applies to kittens or not as I only adopted older (> 1 year old) cats, but it works better that if you're going to set limits, set them immediately and don't waver. As in, if you don't want the cat on the kitchen counters, remove her the very first time you see her there and every other time. It'll be annoying at first but if you never let her up there she'll learn more quickly than if you try to "randomly" impose the rule later on, she'll just get confused and wonder why she's not allowed there anymore. Also, double sided tape all your upholstery. If when the cat is first introduced to upholstery it's sticky, she won't scratch there because she doesn't like it. Then later when you remove the tape she has already learned where to scratch and where not to. "

I'm actually trying to get a kitten for my wife soon so this is going to be helpful.
giver a lot of attention and excersise. the more of this the more orientated the kitten will become to its owner.
Keep putting her the liter box especially after meals and keep it clean. Also get her fixed asap.
Get it spayed/neutered.
feed it milk till it's about 2 months old. then half milk half water for 2 months, then all water for the rest of its life. make sure you buy kitten food well it's a kitten, it can't chew or digest normal cat food.
