What is the creepiest thing that society accepts as a cultural norm?

Honestly, the whole idea of "baby showers" where people just watch someone open gifts they already know are coming has always felt pretty weird to me. It’s like a performance where you’re expected to act surprised for hours while everyone just stares at you. I’ve been to a few, and it just feels like a strange social obligation that nobody actually enjoys but we all just pretend is fun.

Another thing that hits me as super creepy is how we just casually accept constant surveillance everywhere. Like, walking into a store or even just down the street and knowing you’re being filmed by a dozen cameras feels dystopian, but everyone just shrugs it off like it's for safety. It’s definitely not normal to have your every move logged, yet here we are acting like it’s just part of the furniture.

And don't even get me started on the expectation to always be "on" or reachable. The fact that people get genuinely annoyed if you don't reply to a message within ten minutes is wild. We've basically volunteered to be tethered to our phones and available to everyone at all times, and we call it "connectivity" instead of what it really is: being accessible to everyone whenever they feel like it.
