Burning it is the approach used by most organizations that are serious about data security (such as the military). They usually use thermite, and it's actually pretty easy for an amateur to synthesize (you just need aluminum and iron rust, and then a road flare to ignite it). You won't be able to extinguish it, so make sure it's in an open field. Don't look at the flame directly, unless you have welding goggles. just copy whatever on it until it's full then whatever was on it before will be permanently erased. just make sure you fill it to the rim with garbage

Lots of paranoia here. dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sd? Overwriting with random data is not required. These are electronic not magnetic so 1 is 1 and 0 is 0. There is no almost 1 or almost 0 depending on what was written before. As for wear levelling this is irrelevant. Send a 4G file to a 4G stick and it's full, end of.

dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/#ssdcard# run that a few times if you are on linux or mac. Windows has http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897443.aspx Sdelete by microsoft which should work well. Run it, fill the drive, run it again, fill the drive, run it a third time if your paranoid.
