I keep hearing that your degree really doesn't matter as long as you have one. So I'm wondering, what was your college major and what is your job now?

I never got a degree, went to school for graphic design for 3 years never finished. I got an internship at a radio station and worked my way up from jock to promotions director, I feel like that job gave me a better education than any degree in my field could. I now work for an ad agency in Florida running the creative department from design to promotions. We handle clients like cirque, WWE and other large local clients. I wish I had a piece of paper telling me that I had completed college, but I got lucky that the people I worked with and my teachers gave me enough knowledge to go out and do it without that paper. They are amazing people and I owe my career to them.

I'm pretty sure your degree matters. Someone without an engineering degree is not going to get an engineering job as I found the hard way. Major - Environmental Analysis Job - Energy Consultant EDIT: After seeing a lot of responses my statement is not completely true and it is possible for someone without a technical degree to get into a technical field. However, I would like to know how.
Degree in Environmental Science, I work for a helpdesk doing IT support.
Degree: nothing. Occupation: Senior software engineer. I'm 23. Degrees are pieces of paper. Experience is everything.
Degree - Neuroscience Occupation - English Teacher
Degree - BS Mathematics Occupation - Software Engineer I agree, for the most part, your degree doesn't matter. Obviously, some occupations require specific degrees. But, mostly, an employer needs to know you can do the job they need to fill. Your degree, whatever it is, shows that you have some degree of dedication and brains. That proves you can do a lot of things right there. If you have experience doing the thing they need... you have the greatest advantage. But if they can't find someone with the exact experience they're after, someone with a degree (and with two years field experience in something) may fill the bill.
Expected Occupation - Batman
