Do a deep clean of the place and then keep up with keeping things tidied. Open a window (unless you're in California right now), spray febreeze for fabric, spray febreeze in the air, clean surfaces with good smelling cleaning chemicals, and run some fans if you have them. Also, get a 3-wick candle from bath and body works! These things are amazing as you can just open the lid and it'll smell pretty strong without lighting it.

I feel like I have tried every kind of air freshener and it just doesn't make the whole place smell good. I'm not sure if I am just getting used to the smell, but after a few days I don't smell it anymore. I don't want to light a candle every day either. Any suggestions?

Try and open up your windows for an hour or two everyday. It really makes a difference

Open your windows/doors. Let a breeze come through. If it's still persistent, you could have a mold problem.
