Planned Parenthood seems to me to be nothing but a philanthropic organisation. Are the abortion services such a deal-breaker?

To most people, yeah. Many people see sexually active people (particularly women) are doing immoral acts. Some people see that them advocating sexual activity should get PP shut down. What many anti-PP people don't really care about are the numerous other services that PP provides (i.e. breast cancer screening). And I believe most of these services are provided at a rate that grants lower socio-economic women access. When those opposed to PP want to have PP shut down, the consequences are that many women will lose access to these healthcare services. All for what? Bringing us closer to embryocracy. tl dr: Simply put, yes, they are a deal-breaker to many people.

I support PP for having affordable health care options for men and women. I support PP for backing Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to choose. I support PP for advocating a wide variety of contraceptives that are often used for a number of medical reasons besides preventing pregnancy. I support PP for providing a safe places for women and men of all backgrounds and orientations to discuss issues related to their overall health and lifestyles. Yup. Much love for PP here (even if Sanger was a bit of a whackadoo)

I think, since only 3% of what Planned Parenthood does is abortion related services, that this is just another issue used to distract voters and get them to vote based on fear and miseducation. Can we, as a country, get back to voter topics that REALLY do effect our country's future: jobs, the economy, social security reform....the list continues.

On the one hand, PP offers a lot of great services, which I think is a good thing. On the other hand, they offer abortions, which I find despicable. So I'm kind of torn as to whether or not to support PP.

If you turned on the news and the nice guy next door who delivers food to old ladies had a backyard full of shallow graves filled with babies, you'd demand he be removed from society. People view abortion as murder, and for most people, regardless of religion, murder is a deal breaker. I certainly don't want my tax money to go to support murder.

I am always baffled about the black and white nature of the abortion discussion in the US. As an uninformed European, may I ask: Aren't there any time limits on when you're allowed to abort? Here where I live it's legal in the first trimester and illegal after that (unless there are serious mdecal reasons). But whenever I hear the horror stories of the pro-lifers it sounds like abortions would be carried out throughout the whole duration of the pregnancy.
