"Was on SYTTD. It was fun, and kind of stressful in a weird way. I think that's why so many brides end up crying. I did. The film crew was awesome though, especially as they're working with a lot of non-professionals (ie: brides, entourages). Most of what I ended up saying in the actual show was lines fed to me. I'd say "I want a dress with sparkles" and a producer would say, "How about, 'I want a dress that has sparkles to bring out the blue in my eyes,'" or something along those lines and then I'd parrot it back to them. So it was honest, just phrased better for TV purposes. They did request I have a good idea of what dress I wanted to wear going in, just to make sure I did say yes to something. I was worried they'd edit me or someone in my group to look like a bitch, but nope. We all came across as really cool people and had a great time actually watching the show. Definite thumbs up if anyone wants to apply for the show. "

I was on the old MTV show Yo Momma... Jokers keep a piece of paper with the jokes on it in their pocket and they pull it out before each line and memorize the line. The background group had to rehearse several times for the applauds and cheers.
"I worked on one of the final "Extreme Home Makeover" episodes, the '7 in 7' episode where we built 7 houses in 7 days in Joplin, MO after a huge tornado wiped out a lot of the city. The construction crews were all run by local general contractors and their teams donating their own time which was really awesome. None of the hosts did any of the real work, they just did a few things for cameras. Ty Pennington was a huge douchebag and diva. He only came out of his lavish tour-bus for a few minutes at a time to shoot his scenes. The week of the shoot he went and got belligerent drunk at a bar in town and made an ass of himself. Oh yeah, and the house I was working on was framed with 8d nails! (I wasn't part of the framing crew - inspector never said anything) "
"My family won a kitchen makeover from the Martha Stewart show. They said they sent us on vacation for the last week of construction but in reality we stayed home and ate in our basement the whole time. They filmed us driving up the street, had us change our shirts and then filmed us "getting back back from the airport." Can't complain though, the kitchen was nice. Edit: Just to be clear, we were never promised a vacation. We were aware it was just something they were telling the audience because it sounded much nicer than "we made them eat in their basement." It actually wasn't bad eating in our basement for a while but I can understand how that sounds bad. "
"I was on say yes to the dress bridesmaids. All the drama is made up, by the end of the day we left dazed and hungry thinking...Do we actually hate each other? Do we really have problems? It was hours of filming and interviewing with no lunch break. They also told us "just because you say yes to the dress doesn't mean you actually have to buy it." It was an interesting experience. "
My high school was on a couple of episodes of MTV Made. The girl wanted to become more popular and the prom queen. MTV put on a shitload of different events in her name to encourage us to vote for her. What MTV didn't show was that the reason she was unpopular wasn't because she was overweight or in the band or anything, though both were true. She was unpopular because she was a giant bitch...like insanely rude and bitchy. Needless to say, she did not win prom queen. To their credit, the show didn't try to re-shoot it to make it look like she won or anything.
"I was on American Idol in 2010. Ryan Seacrest is super short in real life, that was probably the biggest surprise. The crowd gasped when he came out. You audition 6 at a time, in front of producers and production assistants. In my group, they dismissed 2 people without even hearing them, in the one next to me they let one guy go through without hearing him. You go through multiple rounds of judging before you met the judges. I remember the crew getting mad because we didn't cheer loud enough for the "spontaneous" cheering while the camera pans over us. Ummm....we're supposed to sing, we've been here for 6 hours, our voices are already at risk. I was eliminated by Paula, Simon, and Randy, but overall it was an awesome experience. "
I was a geek on season 5 of Beauty and the Geek Australia (the one in Fiji). It was a hell of a lot of fun, 10/10 would do again if I could. Nothing is scripted, but they make you say stuff more than once for different camera angles so that's why it seems a little forced at times. There were also dozens of wild cats roaming the resort that kept getting in the background of the shots. As a cat person, I thought this was the best thing ever.
"I've been in a few random "stop people on the street and ask them questions" segments. Someone approaches you, asks if you're interested, tells you about the show, has you sign paperwork, introduces you to the interviewer(s), sets up where you'll stand, and then they finally actually film you. It's not as spontaneous as it seems. "
I was on wipeout. I won wipeout actually, it's exactly as it looks. They slow down the courses when people are really fuckin up. They give you a couple lines to say here and there but 99% of it is unscripted and off the cuff. They do post-production editing to make the slow parts less boring to watch
