I work as a bank teller. I'm 22 and I make ~$25k / year. Benefits are decent, paid time off, a bunch of paid holidays, free samples (just kidding), and good hours. I am a bit OCD but very fast/efficient at my job. I can count large amounts quickly and accurately and I'm rarely out of balance, I have a killer memory, and I like it. It's a good thing to like your job. Handling money comes second nature to me now, which is cool, and you build a lot of relationships with the regulars, and I dig that. I will say that I can't stand office drama and it can be really tough being in close quarters with women who are old enough to be your mother (or grandmother) for 40 hours / week. That, and I don't usually agree with the products being sold and the sales aspect of it. Edit: I got my job from interviewing at a big bank for an entry-level teller position (I do not have a college degree), working there for a couple years, and interviewing for my current job at a community Bank.

I am a Flavor Chemist. I have a degree in Food Science and have worked for years in product development. To get to this type of job you have to work in a flavor producing company (Flavor House) and start under an existing chemist. The American Flavor Chemist Society, the organization that regulates certification for this trade requires you work for 5 years apprenticing under a senior chemist and then take a written and oral test, followed by another in two years bearing you pass the first. *Edit: Loads of great questions, I will try and get them all, please be patient and pardon my terrible spelling and grammar.

Accountant at a private corporation. Didn't really work hard in college so big 4 was outta the question at first, caught this job through a recruiter and have more or less worked my way up the ladder and am pretty comfortable. It's boring and rather low key, but I don't have a busy season like my big 4 friends do and I make a comparable salary while getting a broad range of accounting experience (tax, financial statements, internal audit). It's certainly not for everyone and my job is hardly exciting, I don't travel, I don't have crazy stories, but I don't work 80 hour weeks and generally am home at a reasonable time each night. I personally like it a lot and would recommend it to anyone looking for this type of work, just get an accounting degree, work towards your CPA and bust your ass while you are at the office.

Visual Effects artist - Most of the time I love it. It involves a high level of problem solving, artistic skill, and pressure that I enjoy, but the hours and stability are pretty bad and I feel there is no good to come of a long term career in it.

Nuclear engineer. The job consists of making sure everything is safe. It's stressful because there's lots of stuff is going on and you have to keep every pipe, fuse, path and drop of water in your head at any one time to ensure nothing escapes into the environment in case an abnormal condition occurs. I grew up poor and uneducated. I scrapped by with a High School diploma and joined the Marines. 9/11 happened, and saw some deployments and combat. Got out with PTSD and a divorce after 8 honorable years and went to college to keep my mind busy. That was a bit of good luck because engineering kept me VERY busy. Applied for lots of jobs when I graduated and now I live in Hawaii working on a nuclear reactor. Life is sweet! Job security, plenty of money, beach is within walking distance, and the weather is perfect. I live the best life I can to honor my brothers that sacrificed theirs.

Flight attendant. I have a diploma in Tourism but all you need is billingual skills and being 18 since it's not rocket science to serve coffee and smile. It's been almost a year since I started working for this good regional airline company. I don't make much money (starting at 27k/y) but I love it.

I'm a janitor. I always wanted to be a janitor and I fucking love it, you don't have to deal with all the idiots you have at a brick and mortar job and it is always different since I clean for anybody who can pay.

Right hand lady to a business coach. We work with some of the largest companies in Western Canada, as well as one of the leading research facilities in Canada. Basically, my job is to figure out why you hate your boss so much and then have heart-to-heart talks with them about why they're so hated. Lots of tears. You would be surprised.

I'm a Trucker. I mainly got into it because I was working dead end job to dead end job, and I wanted a career. I figured I loved to drive, hated being in the same place all the time, and it wouldn't cost me tens of thousands of dollars to train for it. Don't get me wrong, I love it for all the reasons listed above, but i'm not happy in it. The trucking industry is full of bullshit and micromanagement. Just let me drive! I desperately wish I could change careers, but I literally can't afford to. I'm making more money here than I've ever made before in my life, and i'm still barely in the black each month because of all my debt. I don't want to take on more by going back to school, and I can't afford the pay cut that would come with going into a entry level position somewhere. Fact of the matter is, I'm damn good at what I do. I just hate it and I don't know what to do from here.

I'm a 3D Animator. I got the job because a former teacher of mine recommended me. That felt nice. I absolutely love it because I receive dead looking, T-posed characters and I'm I'm charge of giving them life. When it comes together, it does so beautifully.
