Officers ! What are your tips for young guys and gals wanting to join military academy's?

I'm also looking to join the militaty. I've looked up a ton of advice online as well as family who used to be in the military. The advice I got was: Get an associates degree first, enlist as an officer, and already have a plan on what you want to do in the military. If you are unsure or clueless in anyway, they will station you wherever they want after you finish boot camp. And you can't do shit because you signed a contract to join, so you're essentially a slavr to whatever they want you to do.
