why are salt flats so flat and reflective

there are 7 countries in central america. whenever i'm sailing through that region, it always sticks in my mind that the list goes belize, costa rica, el salvador, guatemala, honduras, nicaragua, and panama. it's a pretty compact area but each spot has its own distinct vibe when you actually get to walk around the ports.

i've been to most of these places during my travels and it's honestly fascinating how distinct they are despite being neighbors. panama is always the one that stands out the most because of the canal, but the others have some incredible coastlines too. hope this helps you clear up the confusion!
