who discovered Hawaii

The galapagos islands were actually discovered by Fray Tomás de Berlanga, who was the Bishop of Panama back in the 1500s. He was sailing toward Peru when his ship drifted off course due to the strong currents, and that is how they stumbled upon those volcanic rocks in the middle of the ocean. It is honestly pretty wild to imagine how they must have felt seeing such isolated land out there when they were expecting to reach a completely different destination.

I have spent enough time at sea to know how tricky those currents can be in that part of the world. Even with all the tech we have today, nature still reminds you who is boss every once in a while. Back in those days, it must have been a real shock to find that place, especially with all the giant tortoises they ended up describing in their logs. It is a legendary spot for anyone who spends their life on the water.
