"You can use the address bar in your browser to perform website specific searches incredibly quickly. In Chrome, right click on the search bar -> edit search engines. In Firefox, right click on a search bar (at Wikipedia, or IMDB say). Select "Add a Keyword for this Search". The keyword will be the prefix to perform a search in that search bar, without troubling to load up that specific website, hunt for a search field, etc. In a few minutes, you can be set to CTL-L and jump to your address bar, and then type in, say: "g egypt protestors" to search google "w Charles Darwin" Wikipedia search "m Hot Fuzz" imdb search "t gawker redesign" twitter search "yt bed intruder" for youtube "i taj mahal" google image search etc etc. This speeds up your surfing by orders of magnitude. Other favorites for Windows 7: Windows Key + Arrow Keys = Aero Snap Right/Left/Maximize/Minimize In Explorer, Alt + Up Arrow Key takes you up to the parent folder of the folder you're currently in. On the Windows 7 task bar, Shift+clicking a currently running program opens a new window/instance of the program. This is very useful for opening up a new browser window or starting a new Word/Excel document.

I have done a lot of remote desktop work in my life and have found that when working with documents that have lag and you don't want to sit and wait for the cursor to catch up, you can do Alt > F > S to save then Alt > F > X to exit.

"ctrl+(left arrow) or ctrl+(right arrow) - Used to move the cursor one "word" back and forward at a time. Hold the shift key down as well to highlight. Great for selecting whole words in email or moving between parameters in your code. ctrl+home - takes you to the top of the your document. ctrl+end - takes you to the end of your document. "

In Firefox: ctrl + t opens a new tab alt + d focuses the text cursor on the address bar if you've inadvertently closed the wrong tab, ctrl + shift + t will restore the last-closed tab. This works for more than one tab, i.e. if you keep pressing ctrl + shift + t, firefox will open as many of your closed tabs as it can remember.

"Alt + Tab to switch between windows, just in case anyone doesn't know it (also Shift + Alt + Tab goes backwards) Windows + R - Opens the "run" dialog (which has been said already), but a few things you can open with it are * calc - Calculator * cmd - Command line window * msconfig - Change startup programs, and some other things In addition, I don't use this one but people might find it useful. Windows + (1-9) will open/switch to the application at that position in the taskbar. "
