"One of most common game to cheat on is online chess. It's a big problem. Your Elo score is very meaningful. The first 5-10 moves are known as book moves that have been extensively studied and all the seasoned players have them memorized for different combinations. Mid-game is more about intelligence and strategy. When playing online you get matched to people with similar elo score. When I started playing chess I couldn't get past opening, if I did it was a sure win for me. My Elo score was suppressed because of lack of experience in opening and I was getting matched to really crappy midgame players. It made the game pretty shit for me. I decided to learn openings and get some decent fun midgame action I would cheat in first 7 moves using a "book move database". Soon after the algorithms picked up on me cheating and I got banned. Now I'm seasoned and done need to cheat. I analyse the game after the fact. I don't mind if my opponent cheats in the first 7 moves if they are new. "

When I'm replaying games I often cheat things like money with cheat engine to avoid having to do all the Grindy bits again. Don't play anything multiplayer though so no harm done.

Cheating on Minecraft servers, was not to screw the players, but to know how effective antihacks and server moderators are, I still do it Of the 20 servers I was hacking, only 7 banned me instantly, 8 servers banned me in 3 weeks and the rest banned me in 2 months.

I have not done it but I've come into contact with quite a bit of them in my time playing csgo from what I can see, the main drive is sadism, causing others aggravation so you can feel powerful. it's very likely that these people were victims of abuse or bullying themselves.

A whole variety of reasons. Mostly so that the games remained fun with our friends. Playing age of empires the O Canada bear was funny. We would play on the hardest difficulty but with cheats and it would laugh at how even cheating it was stupidly hard. Also in Minecraft, on servers where admins would cheat. Where people would kill and take your stuff anyways. Or in uhh WWZ because we'd spend hours and hours farming at the airport just to die and lose the gun we had been searching for for weeks. Cheating allowed a way for our friend group to play multiplayer games at a level that was fun. And also finally get back at all the people who just try to use noobs for easy resources.

I hate cheaters and hackers. You cheat because you have no skill or are too damn bored. If you're so bored of the game that you need to cheat and mod, then find something else to play. If the game is too hard, play an easier one. If you want to hack/mod/cheat in single player I dont care, have fun. But stop ruining the game for the rest of us. You are the reason people stop playing and the game can fail. You're the reason gaming communities get so toxic. Stop ruining it for the rest of us. Stop making the games we love unplayable. I paid for the game with my own hard earned money and love it, I want to play the whole game.

When Halo: CE first came out on PC I was probably a Freshman in Highschool. I liked going into the files and changing weapon properties such as having the assault rifle shoot rockets instead of regular bullets. It was a fun learning experience. I soon realized I could join multiplayer matches and my guns would still have their insane properties. For a couple matches I felt so smart. Like I knew how to do something other people didn't so it was fun to show off. The fun didn't last any longer than an hour. It's just no fun when you have such an advantage. That's coming from a highschool student that nearly flunked out of school. So whenever I see people using hacks or mods online I can't help but think they're not fully developed mentally and I feel kinda bad for them.

I've never had the means to used hacked clients and such... but I if I did I wouldn't waste time hacking on simple shooter games like battlefield and GTA. There's no point. Games like ARK and Rust though? There's incentive to do so, because games like that have tangible resources that you fight for. Hacking could be the difference between loosing that new gun you just built or going's home with an inventory of loot. Of course you'll probably get banned pretty quickly, but hey.
