They want you to talk to doctors about it because of nasty side effects. I was on BC pills and it caused me to go into near suicidal depression. Thankfully husband tried really hard to keep me active in things I had always loved doing (writing, drawing, gaming, etc). I am now on a progestin (different kind of hormone than the estrogen that is in BC pills) called Nexplanon. Hormones affect people differently and the docs just want to make sure it wont affect anything else you may be taking.

Because its a hormonal treatment Because for some reason parents still have control of their kids' bodies medically.

Hormonal birth control has pretty serious health implications so it needs to be monitored by a doctor that provides prescriptions and a limited number of refills. Basically all hormonal birth control puts a woman at greater risk for a fatal stroke, exacerbated by other factors (especially smoking). I'm not sure if it's known why this is.

Condoms?

A lot of it is. Pretty sure last time I checked you didn't need a prescription for condoms. It's only the drugs that are regulated.

"Because "the pill" can cause serious injury and even death. "

There are a TON of reasons people shouldn't take it. It can cause blood clots, so if anyone is prone to blood clots they should not be taking it. Certain medications cancel out birth control. Grapefruits cancel out birth control. It should DEFINITELY be a monitored drug.
