most of the stuff we wear everyday is made from polyethylene terephthalate, or pet for short. it’s basically the same plastic they use for water bottles, just processed into fibers. i see tons of labels on clothes at work and almost all of them list polyester, which is pretty much always this type because it's super durable and doesn't wrinkle easily.
sometimes you'll also run into recycled polyester, which is becoming way more common lately. it feels pretty much the same, but it's supposed to be better for the environment. i honestly can't tell the difference when i'm folding things, but it's cool that they're finding ways to reuse old plastic. it's definitely the go-to material for activewear and those cheap shirts that last forever.

I notice it in almost everything in my closet because it holds its shape so well and doesn't wrinkle easily, which is a lifesaver when I'm rushing out the door in the morning.
Sometimes you'll see it blended with cotton or spandex to make things stretchier or softer. I've got a few workout tops that feel way more breathable than plain polyester, and that's usually because they've tweaked the filament structure or mixed it with other materials. It's pretty cool how they can manipulate the same basic plastic to feel like anything from a slick windbreaker to a soft knit sweater.
