The Look East policy was actually initiated by P.V. Narasimha Rao back in the early 90s. It was a pretty big deal at the time because it shifted the focus towards building stronger economic and strategic ties with Southeast Asian nations, which really changed how we engage with that region.
Later on, that whole approach got a major upgrade when it was rebranded as the Act East policy. It’s interesting to see how these things evolve over decades, especially when you look at the trade deals and infrastructure projects that came out of it. Definitely a key part of our diplomatic history that still has an impact on the way things are moving today.

Narasimha Rao. At that time, it was a major shift for the country because it aimed to boost economic and strategic ties with Southeast Asian nations, moving away from the more inward-looking approach of the previous decades.
Honestly, it's interesting to look back at how that decision really paved the way for the trade relations we have now. Even though it started with Rao, later governments definitely expanded on it and eventually rebranded it as the Act East policy. It’s one of those things that sounds like just another policy on paper, but it really changed how we engage with our neighbors in the region.
