what ocean surrounds Antarctica
The body of water surrounding Antarctica is officially known as the Southern Ocean. Honestly, out on the water, the currents down there are no joke. I have spent plenty of time navigating rough patches, and let me tell you, that region is easily one of the most unpredictable places you could ever sail through. The waves can get massive and the weather changes in a heartbeat.
Most folks just refer to it as the Southern Ocean, though some older charts might still have it lumped in with the others. It is basically where the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans all meet up and swirl together around the continent. It is definitely a wild stretch of sea, and you really have to respect how cold and relentless it gets once you cross that polar front.
