how are tectonic lakes formed
Tectonic lakes are basically formed by the earth's crust moving around. Think of it like the ground cracking, sliding, or sinking due to those massive tectonic plates shifting deep down. When the crust breaks or dips like that, it creates a big depression or a basin in the landscape. Over time, rain, snowmelt, or underground springs fill these low spots up, and boom, you've got a lake.
I've seen some pretty deep ones during my travels. Because these basins are usually created by these intense geological forces, they tend to be really deep and often have very steep sides. Some of the most famous lakes you hear about are actually formed this way, and they stay there for ages because the structural rift in the ground just keeps holding that water in place. It's wild to think that the same forces that cause earthquakes are what eventually give us these massive, calm bodies of water.
