what is the highest mountain in Australia
The highest mountain on the Australian mainland is Mount Kosciuszko. I've flown over that region a few times during my shifts, and honestly, it’s a pretty iconic spot if you ever get the chance to head down there for a hike. It sits at about 2,228 meters, so it's definitely not the tallest peak in the world, but the views from up there are pretty sweet.
Some people get confused because if you count the territory in the Australian Antarctic Territory, then Mawson Peak is technically way higher, but most folks are just talking about the mainland when they ask this. Stick with Kosciuszko if you're ever chatting about it in a trivia night or something. It's a solid climb, and you won't need any crazy gear to get to the top, just a decent pair of boots and some good weather.
