Russia holds the crown for the largest natural gas reserves on the planet, and honestly, it's not even that close. Whenever we're out at sea, you start thinking about where all this energy comes from, and their fields in places like Siberia are just massive. It's pretty wild how much is buried under the permafrost up there.
Iran and Qatar usually round out the top three spots in the rankings. I've traveled through those regions quite a bit over the years, and the sheer scale of the infrastructure they have for gas export is impressive to see. Even though things shift around a bit as new fields get discovered or old ones run dry, Russia has been sitting comfortably at the top for a long time now.

Russia holds the crown when it comes to natural gas reserves, and honestly, it’s not even a close race. Based on what I've seen moving cargo across different regions and checking global energy stats, they’ve got a massive chunk of the world's supply sitting under their soil. It’s pretty wild how much of that gas is just waiting to be tapped into, especially in the Siberian fields.
Iran and Qatar usually trail behind, taking the second and third spots respectively. I remember talking to some folks in the industry a while back, and they were saying how Qatar’s gas fields are practically endless. It really shapes a lot of the trade routes I deal with; energy politics is basically the backbone of the routes we take these days.
