Mount Rushmore is sitting right there in the Black Hills of South Dakota. It's in a town called Keystone, which is pretty much the middle of nowhere if you're coming from the coast. I've flown over that area a few times and the landscape is honestly pretty wild once you get away from the main tourist spots.
Most folks drive up from Rapid City to get there, and the roads winding through those hills are pretty cool if you're into scenic drives. It’s definitely one of those spots you should see in person at least once, even if it feels a bit smaller than what you see in the movies. The craftsmanship is insane when you're standing right at the base of it, just crazy to think how they carved all that into solid rock.

If you're planning a road trip out that way, definitely make sure to give yourself enough time to actually hike around the trails there instead of just snapping a quick picture from the viewing deck. It's a solid place to check out.
