Think of it mainly in terms of scale and how they sit on the land. A glacier is usually what you see carving through mountain valleys or flowing down from high peaks. It’s localized, basically a river of ice that’s constantly moving under its own weight. I’ve seen some pretty massive ones in my time out on the water, especially when you get closer to the poles, and they usually have that distinct shape dictated by the terrain they are flowing through.

An ice sheet is a whole different beast entirely. We are talking about something so huge it basically buries the entire landscape underneath it, like what you find in places like Greenland or Antarctica. Unlike a glacier that stays tucked in a valley, an ice sheet spreads out in every direction and isn't really restricted by mountains. It’s basically a massive, continental-scale dome of ice that just sits there, crushing everything underneath it. It's honestly humbling to think about how much water is locked up in those things compared to the smaller glaciers.
