what is the environmental impact of plastic pollution in rivers

Man, the Mississippi is basically the backbone of the entire country's logistics. I've spent plenty of time navigating waterways, and let me tell you, that river is a total beast when it comes to moving goods. You’ve got these massive grain shipments, coal, and petroleum products just floating down toward the Gulf of Mexico every single day. If that river were to shut down for even a week, the supply chain would be in absolute shambles because trucking or rail just can't handle that kind of volume efficiently.

Beyond just the transport, think about the farming industry in the Midwest. All that fertile soil along the banks and the irrigation access makes it the breadbasket of the world. It’s wild to think how much of the stuff we eat or use daily literally rides down that current. Plus, the river supports a ton of jobs, from the port operations down in Louisiana all the way up to the smaller river towns. It's not just a river, it's a massive, flowing highway that keeps the whole economy moving without needing a ton of fuel compared to other ways of shipping stuff.
