The cytoskeleton is basically the structural framework that keeps everything in a cell from collapsing, kind of like the steel beams in a building. There are three main components you should look at: microtubules, microfilaments, and intermediate filaments. Microtubules are the thickest ones, made of tubulin proteins, and they act like tracks for moving stuff around the cell. Whenever I look at cell motility under a microscope, these are usually the guys responsible for that heavy lifting.

Then you've got microfilaments, also known as actin filaments. These are super thin but really important for cell shape and muscle contraction. They're always dynamic, constantly breaking down and rebuilding themselves. Intermediate filaments are the middle-ground group; they're more about providing mechanical strength and keeping the nucleus and other organelles in their proper spots.
