I've moved from the right wing end of the political spectrum to the left over the course of my life. I started out right wing when I was young because I was poor and trying to get rich. I resented paying taxes so other people could avoid working. As I got older I became richer and more secure. I also met a lot of people, some of whom lived in heartbreakingly desperate straights due to no fault of their own. I realised not everyone has the advantages I have or got the breaks and luck I have. I now support taxes and don't mind paying so those who can't, can live a dignified life. Yes I know there are people who game the system but you know what ? I don't care. I used to. It used to aggravate me no end but now I don't care. If the price of providing for the needy is also providing for 100 leeches then so be it.

Cycling. I used to think cyclists were all entitled jerks who enjoyed breaking traffic laws. I started cycling to work several months ago and researched traffic laws concerning cyclists and realized I had been wrong about a lot of them. I confirmed that many cyclists are jerks who break traffic laws. I also realized that just as many motorists are jerks who break traffic laws.

I was a pretty solid Christian up through my first year in the US Army (about 18 y/o). Then I was sent to Korea and met a local who didn't believe in any god. I didn't ever even realize that was an option. After about a year of reading, thinking, and discussing, I discovered that I was an atheist.

I hated Dark Souls. It took me weeks to get out of the Undead Parish. I took a three month hiatus while occasionally reading up on the mechanics and lore, while trying not to spoil the entire experience. I got back to the game and everything just clicked for me. Years later it remains as my favorite gaming experience. Also I thought I was decent at punctuation until I noticed I missed a question mark in the title...

Being active on social media. I wasn't a fan of posting on snapchat, instagram, facebook, etc. But I realized I enjoy sharing things with people close to me upon using them and those were just easy means of doing it.

Drug Addiction... I used to live in a neighborhood packed full of druggies and dealers, some of which overlapped and I had some mean dispositions against anyone using drugs. Then after meeting an 8-year clean Meth addict and hearing how little help and support she was given and how hard it was, especially her therapist demanding she give her kids away because she was poison to them.. I realized that addicts are people who made a mistake and are caught in a horrible loop with no reaching hands willing to help pull them out.
