Is In-N-Out Burger really that good? As a Northwest American, I don't have any of those around me. So is it really all that good? If so, why is it different than any other fast food restaurant?

"They're just very simple and classic style burgers that are made with very fresh ingredients (the radio commercial always reminds us that the meat is "never frozen!"). Even the menu itself is very simple and classic no chili bacon blue cheese burgers, no americanized mexican fare - just straight up classic, fresh burgers, fries, fountain drinks and milk shakes. They do offer quite an array of customization on your food if you prefer, but I always just eat them the normal way off the menu. Their french fries are really not as good as other places I'd rather eat ANYONES fries over In-N-Out's. Purists like to whine that the fries are the shit because they're fresh, but I think they're just dumb. It's a lot better than standard fast-food fare, but I still eat there only once a month, or once every couple of months. Then again I've lived in California my whole life and I actually live near an In-N-Out now, so I may have become immune to the draw and hype. "

I think they are overrated.
Yes and no. In my opinion any sit-down restaurant will have a better burger, Cheeseburger in Paradise for example. However the quality that you get for the price is unbeatable.
No, it is not that good. There are many burger joints which are equally good or better. A lot of them are local diners.
Im from Oregon, I was in Cali last week, stopped by one. Its like Burgerville but better. Pretty much the only way I can describe it
Why do all the comments sound like an advertisement?
"As someone who heard about In-N-Out the first time in "The Big Lebowski" my first deed when I arrived in California (LAX) two weeks ago was to eat at said "restaurant". First I thought, that I just imagined the burgers to taste that well because I like the movie. After a few more of them I have to say: I didn't imagine it. They are that tasty. Also I like the fact, that they cut their fries right in front of you and the stuff I read in another post here about how they do everything to serve the freshest while still affordable burger. "
It is good but people hype it up to much.
This is blasphemy to most here in California, but I think In n Out is terribly overrated. I'm from the Southeast and I heard it hyped so much that I expected an orgasm in my mouth when I got here. The burger is good for sure, but I don't crave it like I do a McDonalds burger and I prefer a Wendy's burger honestly. The fries are simply not good and many people agree with me they're bland and are only good for like 2 minutes. The lines are huge and the place is frequently dirty because it's so packed. I've got nothing riding on it, I live a few blocks from one, but I go to Wendy's, McDonald's, or Five Guys before In n Out. It's the same with my roommates and many of my friends. Your experience may vary!
I am from NY and tried an In and Out burger 14 and it was the best thing I had ever eaten. 8 years later I was in California again and thought I would try the burger but though there was no way it could ever live up to the hype I had created in my head. It was just as good as it was 8 years before and ate there 5 times in a 3 day trip. ITS THE TITS! (is this still groovy to use?)
