Hey I'm hoping maybe somebody can help me figure out what may be wrong with my dog?

My dog also exhibits a limp from time to time. My vet told me he has a bit of a hip problem, from birth, and there is nothing he can do. My dog can run normally at full speed and jumps/plays with no problem, but sometimes when he's just cruising around outside he lifts up one of his legs and limps for a few steps. Otherwise he's fine. My vet told me not to worry about it. He's not acting like he's in pain and otherwise is very healthy. I consider it to be like my occasionally sore back or wrist, sometimes it just aches a bit and you do something to relieve it, for a dog this may be the way they relieve a bit of pressure or soreness. I always massage the muscle area above the leg and on his lower back by his tail, he seems to like that. Try gently massaging the major muscles around that leg and see how your dog responds, if they lean into it, it feels good to them and the muscle may be tensed up. Some gentle massaging can provide relief and you won't be doing any harm.

I am not a doctor or vet or anything, so all this is pure speculation, but if it helps: Hm, the fact that it's on a seven day cycle may indicate that a human cause. Are you doing something different on the weekend or on friday/thursday? E.g. if you take her on a walk through a certain park every friday, the poisonous plant may be there, rather than your back yard. The head-shaking is also strange - I initially though maybe she could be picking up a thorn or something, but head shaking indicates otherwise. Ticks/other insects? Keeping an exact journal with photos/videos and detailed descriptions may also help the vet in the future, once you have enough data.

Do you live in an area where Lyme's disease is prevalent? It can effect dogs just as it does humans with neurological and joint issues. I'm not a vet--but I have known plenty of people whose dogs have contracted the disease. Good luck! Pet MD-Lymes

My dog had a psychosomatic limp from being dropped as a puppy. He started peeing on the carpet so my mum shouted at him and picked him up and carried him to the door, whereupon she lost her grip and dropped him, causing him to yelp in pain. She then became sympathetic and made a fuss over him. Ever since he would always start limping if anyone shouted at him and look dolefully at you until you stroked him. I don't think that's what is happening here but I like telling stories about my dog.

Has you vet suggested you supplement your dog with Vitamin E? Vitamin E deficiencies can trigger nerve disorders in dogs. Perhaps asking your vet to perform blood work on your dog may shed a better light as to what is affecting her.

My dog has the same thing. Sometimes her leg is so bad she doesn't even put any pressure on it. Other times she's full on sprinting and acting normal. Our vet said she has a partially torn ligament, which is pretty common I guess in her breed (Red nose pitbull). There is surgery they recommended to fix it, but it was around $6000 :/ We just try our best to not overwork her leg. I used to take her on really long walks but not so much anymore.

I have a dog that sometimes has a bit of limp if she gets up after laying down for a long time. I always figured it was something with the nerve being twisted or compressed and the leg just going to sleep. Overall, it doesn't really seem to affect her. Careful of those vets. They'll bleed you dry. I would say as long as the dog is not in pain then just let it be. Medical fixes for pets can be expensive and the more complicated, the less likely they'll actually help.
