I was playing piano in a music class I had that had that Bitchin Yamaha MIE keyboard system with every kid getting 1/2. Keyboard and headphones. I was cranking the piano and learning a Jackson Browne song and a girl turned around and said 'Grandma! Can you turn the TV Down''. Hilarity. The girl had no father in her life and her mother died of cancer in the 7h grade. This was 8th and she was living with grandma. We had a reunion as they were the first class that graduated from the new Middle school and she got into a state college and graduated. I was really happy for her. There was another Hispanic first year in the US kid named Eric who walked a mile to school and worked HARD. He got into college too. Teaching sucks, but man, every once in a while a kid makes it totally worth it.

"Extremely sad. I mostly work with kids who just don't get enough attention or their parents are just alcoholics. I was sitting in the village center once reading a book and a toddler walks up to me and sits down next to me and starts calling me "papa" his mom and sisters kept pulling him away and he kept walking back. Sad times in Eastern Europe. "

Flattered. But embarrassed when it's in front of real parents! Just downplay and correct them... You mean Ms ...

I called one of my teachers fuhrer

Quite flattering actually. If I mean so much to the kid they consider me their parent, I am not going to complain!

You get used to it, since it happens a lot in the beginning of middle school. It's funny when it's older pupils though, just before high school, but it has never been embarassing so far. My students know it can happen to anyone, so they chuckle and move on.

I would like to know what my first grade male teacher thought when I accidentally called him grandma.

"I called my First Grade teacher, a normally Sullen and stern looking man from Germany "Daddy" and watched as it literally melted his soul. He was actually a very Nice guy and my parents adored him. He wrote a very sweet note in a book I bought from a book festival at the end of the year for me. Because I loved reading and was ahead for my age. You're the best, Mister W. Still remember you. "

As a male who has been called grandma before, usually, the student catches themselves (ooo I mean Mr. ____) and everyone has a good laugh. Nothing crazy. I joked that I do bake some mean pies right after though.
