I chew gum to prevent yawning. I discovered this in college when I had to sit through class. It wasn't always because I was tired, just sitting listening to a lecture made me yawn. At first, I began chewing Jolt gum, but then they stopped selling it at my student union. I switched to regular mint gum and found it had the same effect. If you yawn a lot and find it really annoying/distracting, give it a try. Also, When I get hiccups, I take a mouthful of water, tilt my head all the way back and swallow. A small burp later, no more hiccups.
