"That is the thing. there are too many people who fuck it up for other people. Around my city there are these pan handling gypsies that hit up ever exit near costco, and the 2 exit ramps near the freeway. Then they get together and share their earnings. I see them all jump in a van, and drive off. Scum Bags. If you really need help, there are all kinds of help programs in my city. But I refuse to give them money. But I have paid for peoples groceries in line when they did not have enough money, or bought people bread, peanut butter and jelly so they can eat for 1/2 a week. Also bought some guy like 3 gallons of milk and some other food items when I was low on money myself. Barely making ends meet. But one of the oldest scams is I don't have enough gas to get back to "enter city here" can you spare some money to help get me back. I have seen this one many of times. "

I do my best not to. I do scorekeeping for my city's softball leagues. One field I was assigned to for 2 or 3 seasons had a group of a dozen or so homeless people who set up camp in the same park. While they were friendly enough people I ALWAYS saw them with a tall can or a 40 of beer. They were always completely drunk as a means to get through the day. I realize most of the money I give them will go straight to booze/cigarettes. Generally homeless people aren't homeless because they were good at managing their money. There's a reason most of them are in the position they're in. I've given a few people a couple bucks in change before but I wouldn't give much more than that. Now, food, I will give them. I've shared some extra food a number of times since I know that is actually doing them good. Money, not so much.

Don't give them money, give them food, or water, or socks, or warm clothes. It will do them a lot more good than the money.

I'm from a small town, and didn't see it until the Navy. I never gave the homeless money for a while. A friend and I were in San Diego just coming out of a restaurant and a homeless man asks my friend for money. My friend gives him a dollar. Immediately after he asks if he can have my friends leftovers. That kind of nerve just kind of got to me. A month or so back I gave a guy my bag of quarters I keep in my truck for the toll for when I visit home. That is about it. There was probably 5 - 8 bucks in quarters in the bag.

Yeah. I don't even care if the spend it on booze or drugs. At least they can escape the nightmare of being homeless for a bit.

No. At least not the vast majority of the time. If I someone who was old and decrepit and definitely couldn't work, I probably would. Mostly though, the beggars I see are young gutter punks, who willingly live a hobo lifestyle and think jobs are for suckers. I'd never give to them. Also in my neighborhood there have been a few youngish (early 20's), athletic looking guys in fashionable clean clothes that have been begging. Not going to give them anything, either. A young, fit male begging? Go swing a hammer or something.

"My neighbor is a "hobo" he goes out next to the highway to ask for money and or work. He's got like a hobo headquarters at his house where they all meet up. There were tons of shady visitors late at night who just pulled up and left. A few months ago there was a drug bust in the middle of the night. There were about five cop cars in the neighborhood. Now he's back and he's a scrapper. I'd give him money if I didn't know what actually went down. "

What I get chapped by is beggars who have a dog next to them. Are you doing out for sympathy? How much easier would your life be, financially, of you didn't have to care for a pet? Yes, I do own pets and they are part of the family. But if I was homeless, I'd give them to a friend or shelter, for their own good and mine.

I refuse to give money to homeless people. Happy to buy them meals, rooms for the night etc but will not give them money.
