My parents woke me up as usual. I went downstairs so we could eat breakfast. I arrived downstairs, and my parents were both standing in front of me, looking at me expectantly. I was confused and asked them if we were going to eat breakfast. They laughed and said happy birthday. I said what!! That was TODAY?! They both hugged me and gave me some small gifts and some cash. Nothing else happened that day. I just completely forgot it was my 21st because it's so unimportant to me as a German, we get to drink beer and wine at 16 and everything else at 18, nothing unlocks at 21, it's just another birthday. I had no big gifts I was looking forward to, no party plans, it just slipped my mind entirely.

Having to organise & pay for the party myself. My parents came, refused to mingle with anyone & fucked off after 20 minutes. I didn't get any gifts.
