British people . What do you think about everyone clapping for the NHS every Thursday?

It's nothing but bluster. None of these people who are clapping will actually give a shit about the toil these doctors and nurses go through on a daily basis outside of the pandemic. It's all an exercise in virtue signalling. That's it. The applause every week does nothing. If they want to be activists of some description, then campaign for a political party who will give these medical workers the pay and treatment they deserve, and not criminally underfund the NHS.

It's a nice gesture but I'm on the side of it being a bit cheesy but I do think the essential workers deserve more than a clap from the government

I kind of feel like it's patronising. It has turned into an excersise of who can clap the loudest and act the big I am. Somebody on my street was even releasing balloons, just what they need. The best way of thanking them is to pressure Boris into giving the NHS workers a pay rise.

I wouldn't mind so much if it were clapping. But my neighbours are banging saucepans and frankly sound like an angry mob rather than a grateful citizenship. There does feel a distinct unbritishness in mass participation though.

It's good but would be better if they voted for a party that wanted to fund the nhs.

It's a nice thought, I think we can all agree we appreciate what they are doing right now. However, I've seen a lot of people just using it as an excuse to gather and chat together on the street, in which case it isn't helpful to the situation or to the NHS. Would everyone making a post on social media each Thursday be any less meaningful? Because it would be safer, atleast in regards to those people I've seen chatting together while they clap.

I don't clap. It doesn't mean I am not unappreciative, but I feel second hand embarrassment when I hear everyone clap and the fireworks and the labs and pots. It just doesn't mean anything to me anymore.
