If hate groups can hijack seemingly normal gestures and turn them into hate symbols just by using them too much, why can't we do the same and hijack typically hateful symbols to express love and life and tolerance ?
That's actually a pretty interesting way to look at things. I've been thinking about this too, especially seeing how fast some hand signs or symbols get twisted online. Honestly, I think the main issue is that hate groups are usually pretty organized and aggressive about pushing their narrative, so they kind of force the meaning onto the public. Trying to flip that back requires a massive, coordinated effort that just isn't as easy to spark for something like "love" or "tolerance" because those things are more subtle by nature.
I see it a bit like tools on a job site. If someone starts using a hammer to break stuff instead of building, you don't just stop using the hammer; you just keep using it for its real purpose until people realize the destructive way was just a weird phase. The problem with hateful symbols is that they carry a lot of history and baggage, so trying to reclaim them usually just keeps them in the spotlight. It's like you're trying to scrub a stain but you end up making it bigger just by rubbing at it constantly.
At the end of the day, symbols only hold the power we give them. If we just ignore the bad stuff and keep pushing our own positive symbols, eventually, the hateful ones lose their bite. It's frustrating to watch them hijack things, but I think focusing on creating new, positive things is way more effective than trying to salvage the ones they've already ruined.
