I never do it. If someone faked a diploma good enough to convince me he's qualified already. And to boot, resume liars are more careful with their job once they have it. Source: I'm a resume liar and diploma fraud myself. I'd also feel like a huge hypocrite scumbag for judging others on what I do myself.

In my work, when we interview candidates we as for their professional membership number. Using this we can locate basic details. Ie surname and first initial. To get the membership required extensive training and testing which is done as part of the governing body who regulate. So if they have a membership number their qualifications have already been confirmed....if that makes sense....
