How come Peter Rabbit can wear clothes and set up elaborate stunts but he can't grow his own food? Why is McGregor the villain? Isn't he just protecting the literal fruits of his labor?

"The movie put way more emphasis on the McGregor villan thing. In the book, Peter went against his Mother's advice and stole vegetables and nearly died because of it. He ends up getting sick and his Mother forgives him and puts him to bed with a nice hot drink. It's a moral tale about obeying authority. Not saying it's a bad movie, I really enjoyed it, but it was more of a "based on the characters" type thing than a straight based on the book adaption. "

McGregor is a land holding member of the bourgeoisie, and Peter is a working class hero trying to overthrow him. McGregor's also Irish.

Me too, the farmer does all the work and they just go and rob it all but he's bad for trying to stop them.

Cabbages aren't literal fruit, but yes.

McGregor is the villain of the story because it is told from the perspective of a young, heedless, hungry bunny. Bart Simpson with bigger ears.

Because it's a bad adaptation

McGregor destroyed the rabbits habitat and now Peter's natural source of food is gone. He has no choice really. If I were in his shoes, I would destroy all his crops so McGregor would go bankrupt and have to move away so I could have my life back.
