Gough Whitlam for Australia. He was a prime minister in the early 70s. Essentially a socialist similar to Bernie Sanders. He brought in universal health care and university degrees, and established legal aide and ended consription. He's changes were radical and he got sacked by the governor general and wasnt re-elected in quite interesting circumstances. But his legacy lived on. Healthcare in this country is still fantastic because of him. And while university is no longer free, it's well subsidized and regulated pricing making a degree obtsinable yo anyone.

Jose Figueres Ferrer. Costa Rican president of 1949. He was responsible for eliminating the national army and redirecting that money into social services like education and health. He got rid of the need for unnecessary heros of war, and avoiding the sadness of countless mother losing a son that way.

"Probably Arnold von Winkelried. The story goes that the Old Swiss Confederacy army was fighting against the Habsburgs in order to remain independent and expand to other areas of modern Switzerland. Both armies were fighting with pikemen, so what happened was that the Swiss soldiers could not break the Hapsburg ranks. Arnold yelled "I will open a passage into the line protect, dear countrymen and confederates, my wife and children." and threw himself against the pikes of the Hapsburg sacrificing his life while breaking the ranks of the Hapsburg pikemen. The Swiss won that battle which was extremely important to the growth of Switzerland. "
