Why can male artists get away with singing voices that are less melodious, but women generally cannot?

Honestly, I think it comes down to how the music industry has always marketed women versus men. For guys, it’s often about the "vibe" or the persona—like if a dude has a gritty, rough voice, people call it "authentic" or "raw." It’s seen as cool if he isn't hitting every note perfectly because it feels more down-to-earth, you know? But for female artists, the bar for technical perfection is just pushed way higher by producers and labels.

It's pretty frustrating because society still expects women to be polished and "pretty" in every single aspect of their performance. If a female singer is a bit off-key, people are way quicker to tear her apart online compared to a guy who gets a pass for just being charismatic. I've noticed this with a lot of the pop and rock stuff I listen to; guys get away with being lazy with their vocals all the time, but the girls are expected to be flawless vocal machines.
