"My aunt frequently gets people crappy gifts from the dollar store. I'm always tempted to get her a giftcard for the store, then hand it to her and say, "well, you love shopping there." Or you can make him something really, really crappy. A homemade gift that you put zero effort into or just did a really terrible job with. When you give it to him, talk endlessly about how much he means to you and how hard you worked and how homemade gifts are so much better than store-bought ones because it means that the gift-giver cares more, etc. He has to be thankful and grateful because it's homemade! "
