Always loved spicy food as long as it had a good flavor, then I worked with a bunch of guys from Yemen and they were eating some middle eastern food that smelt great and offered me some. I was game, and it was delicious, the dish was called foul, fava beans and other spices with chopped tomatoes and tahini paste. They also had this jar of red peppers all ground up and they would dip a piece of pita in it and eat it with yogurt and olive oil. I said let me try it, they said are you sure it's really hot. Gave it a try, they weren't wrong, I had tears running down my eyes, my nose was running and I kept hiccuping. They gave me a lemon slice and told me to suck on it, then a tea spoon of olive oil. It definitely cut the burn but nope never tried it again.

I thought I could take on the reaper. Was it hotter than anything I had ever eaten? Yes. However, the flavor was delicious and I didn't think it lived up to the hype... initially. It's not the spice on the tongue you should worry about. You can FEEL that thing inching it's way through you at every point... EVERY POINT... start to FINISH... It is agony.
I used to like spicy food, I could eat jalapenos with no problem, but not stupidly spicy stuff like vindaloos. When I turned 17 I didn't come into contact with much spicy foods for a while, next time I went to Subway and ordered jalapenos on the sandwich, it completely melted my internals.
The restaurant I work at (well, used to) is owned by a Sri Lankan dude, and as such there are loads of Sri Lankans working in that kitchen. I used to work at a Portuguese restaurant, I grew up surrounded by Portuguese folks and food, so after incorporating copious Piri-Piri sauce, I figured I could handle spicy. Well, one day one of the cooks was making his own supper, making this amazing smelling curry. Warns me it's spicy. I confidently replied that I can handle spicy. Turns out? I cannot handle Sri Lanka spicy.
Habanero poppers. Got through the second one and realized it was a mistake.
A soup at a Thai place. I'm telling you, each drop of that soup had about the same spice concentration as something like tabasco. It felt like eating hot sauce by the spoon.
The first time I had ghost pepper chips was a scary experience. Now I can handle it but boy was I tearing up the first time.
Those spicy samyang noodles. The first time I took em' I thought my family members were exaggerating and I knew I had the higher tolerance to spicy food in the house. But god damn, I wasn't expecting that much heat from a pack of noodles. Now I genuinely enjoy the 2x after eating so much of it. Can't wait to try the 4x
Nothing yet. But I look forward to being humbled.
Still waiting for it. Whenever I ask for extra spicy it's never that spicy. I feel like they hold back because I am a white chick and they don't think I can handle it.
