Mascots and other foam-covered entertainers, do you smile when taking pictures?

honestly, i’ve never thought about it too much until now, but yeah, i definitely do. even though nobody can see my face under that massive foam head, i catch myself grinning like an idiot every single time a kid runs up for a photo. it’s just a reflex, i guess. if you don't commit to the energy, the whole thing feels kinda flat, and people can actually tell in the photos if you're just standing there like a statue.

it’s weird how much body language matters when your face is basically a permanent expression. if i'm smiling under there, i feel like my posture changes and i get more into the character. plus, it’s just fun seeing how excited the kids get. it’s hard not to be in a good mood when you're making someone's day, even if you are sweating buckets inside that suit.
