I use an LG M2794DP for my PC, Playstation 3, Wii, and normal freeview TV, all plugged in simultaneously. Distance is around 5 feet from the sofa. Picture is brilliant, full-HD, would recommend it as a do-everything screen. The biggest problem is interface size on the PC. It's just that too far away for standard PC interfaces, which have text far too small to read as those distances, such as Supreme Commander or X3, but works perfectly well with more console-esque games (Assassins Creed, Fallout 3 etc), with interfaces that work at that distance. If I wanted though I could just get another chair to sit closer to the screen, and that would be no problem with a great resolution. You can bump up the normal Windows text size (dpp - dots per pixel or something) in Control Panel to make normal PC use easier, for web-browsing and things. But for average computer use, I now use my laptop for web/work and my PC for gaming.

"I use a 37" for my monitor @ 1080p. Just make sure to enable 1:1 pixel mapping and have it spaced appropriately from you. "

"I just purchased a 27" HDTV monitor, but I don't use it for TV so that part is useless, but it is beautiful and beautiful quality, got it @ Best Buy for $350. "

"I have a low end Haier 32" lcd tv as my monitor. It is nice because I can switch between all inputs - pc/xbox/tv all via hdmi. My major complaint being that the color isn't calibrated perfectly, so when image editing, you are playing a guessing game. "

I have been using my HDTV as a monitor for almost a year. It's great. I don't have any complaints about the idea. One piece of advice (which you seem to have figured out already): don't do this with a 720p. Always with a 1080p. Other than that, cheers for your soon to be giant computer screen :)

This is the monitor I have. Have had it for over a year and works great. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254043&cm_re=hanns_g-_-24-254-043-_-Product Not bad for a 300.00 monitor.

"You should consider the screen door effect. If you will be sitting within a few feet of your monitor then it is a good idea to go with a PC monitor with higher resolution for a 30" monitor. "

"I have a 26 inch samsung monitor that I used for my Macbook Pro, Xbox 360, and PS3. I recently purchased a 65" Panasonic Plasma tv and I find myself still using my monitor more than the tv. "
