(Serious) What do you Women's Studies / Speech Communication / Soc / Psych majors on actually plan on doing with your degree? What's your plan?

Look, I get why people ask this. It’s easy to look at those degrees and wonder where the paycheck comes from, especially when you compare them to something like engineering or tech. But honestly, most of the people I’ve met with those backgrounds didn't go in with a single "job title" in mind. They usually end up in HR, marketing, corporate communications, or even non-profit management. It's more about how you learn to think and deal with people rather than just memorizing a specific skill set.

I’ve worked with plenty of folks who had degrees that seemed "useless" on paper, but they ended up being the ones who could actually navigate a messy office environment or talk to clients without losing their cool. In my experience, technical skills can always be taught later, but having a real grasp on human behavior or how systems work socially is a massive advantage in any team setting. It’s not always a straight line to a job, but they seem to find their niche pretty well after a few years of grinding.

At the end of the day, people are just looking for ways to build a career that doesn't make them miserable. Some go back for certifications, others climb the ladder through sheer grit, and some pivot into roles that didn't even exist when they started school. It’s not for everyone, but saying those degrees lead to nowhere is just ignoring how complex the job market actually is these days. They’ve got a plan, it just looks different than the standard "degree to job" pipeline.
