I'm a student teacher working at a Chipotle right next to a college campus. Almost every college student responds to this, and most go further. I have at least 20 customers who I met through my job and we mutually know each others names, majors, jobs, and talk about how online classes are going. These kids light up when they see me and greet me by name (I do the same). Now remember, this is a Chipotle, and I have about 30 seconds max to talk to each customer. But these sweethearts still find the time to ask me how my student teaching is going and wish me a good day every time. TLDR college students are best customers.

Most people respond in kind so it doesn't really move me. People who go out of their way to express gratitude for service are noted positively however.
It's better when they smile, and show their pearly whites.
Former cashier. I mean, any break in the monotony felt good. Most interactions were just them saying something like thanks or you too. Most of the time its nice when customers talk to you, ask you about your day, the store, ect. It makes you feel like less of a machine.
It's nice. Honestly, you don't notice that it's nice until people just walk away without a word. Definitely something we can take for granted imo, I like being acknowledged for that. It helps move things along with a positive attitude :)
i dunno, never had my day brigttened before. jokes aside, i don't have a job.
"When I worked retail 99% of the time when I said "have a nice day" I meant "die in a fire you cunt". Other 1% was "I wish everyone, including me died in a fire, like right now". "
Any from-the-heart positivity towards me brightens my day, and I work hard to give it to others. Not for my job, but for us.
"No, but it definitely makes my day worse if they're rude or abrupt. Like k man, I know you just want your pizza, but if I ask how are you I expect at least "good thanks." "
"The guy who responded "NO AND YOU CANT MAKE ME" made my day more than people who just say "you too!" "
