Men and women, why do you honestly think it is difficult for women to find a solid group of female friends that stick with them for a long time?

I think more women don't like themselves than men do and so we turn that outward sometimes. We were also taught to socialize with a lot of talking as opposed to doing things together like men do. So talking a lot can lead to gossip and rumors and words being twisted when they find their way back to anyone. In my experience, it has been what female friends said to each other that ruined friendships. That being said, every girl I know has a least one long term friendship. I am talking 10+ years. You basically just have to mesh with someone on a different level than a lot of men do, I think. We have to really get each other to form the bond.

Men: We know how to be friends. Seriously, women just seem to be so catty with their friends and women know how to hurt each other really bad. Men just aren't like that.

"More context: My friends and I struggled to find a group of female friends that we felt really connected with us after we disconnected in high school. We randomly reunited over ten years later and now are best of friends. We discussed in our podcast about our struggles of finding a solid group of girl friends and addressed issues like petty drama, having different interests that may not align with stereotypical "girl" interests, etc. It sparked a really interesting conversation and I'd love to hear what other people think is the reason for this or if it's not a problem for them at all! "

Among my peers I only ever really see the opposite. I do see a lot of people that have old friendships that should have been culled as they grew into different people, however.
