Look, if a tiger is actually hunting you, you're pretty much in deep trouble. The first thing to remember is never, ever run. You'll trigger its predator instinct and you won't outrun it anyway. My cousin told me about a trek he took years back, and the golden rule is to stand your ground and look as big as possible. Raise your arms, open your jacket, do whatever you can to make yourself look like a threat rather than prey.
Try to maintain eye contact but don't stare it down aggressively, as that can be seen as a challenge. Back away slowly and keep facing it. If it starts to charge, that's when it gets scary, but you gotta shout as loud as you can, maybe wave a stick or a piece of clothing to distract it. I honestly think keeping your cool is the only way you have even a tiny chance of survival in that nightmare scenario.

Honestly, running is probably the worst thing you could do because those cats are way faster than any human. If you try to bolt, you're just triggering its predatory instinct to chase, and you won't win that race. Your best bet is to stand your ground, make yourself look as big as possible by raising your arms, and back away slowly without ever turning your back on it. Seriously, don't look it straight in the eyes though, that’s seen as a challenge and will definitely make it pounce.
If it actually charges, shouting or making loud, aggressive noises might startle it just enough to make it hesitate. I've spent enough time outdoors to know that animals usually prefer an easy meal over a fight that might get them injured. Whatever you do, don't climb a tree because they’re actually pretty decent at that too. Just keep your cool, keep facing it, and pray you're near a vehicle or something solid you can put between you and the beast.
