My family has HUGE problems (more in post) and I'm not emotionally responding to them. Is this normal?

How old are you? If you are old enough to legally leave your parents' house do so ASAP, it will be best for everyone. If you are not, ask all of your relatives if you can go and live with them, you can sleep in a basement if you have to, and you can do chores around the house to make up for the food, you need to get out for everyone's sake, and you need parenting.

You deal with enough bullshit (especially if it is beyond your control) and you will eventually tune out. How old are you? If you're an adult, sounds like it might be time to strike out on your own.

People deal with stress differentally. Sometimes people are so overwhelmed they don't respond. Sometimes people can be overwhelmed by stress but can also recognize their lack of ability to control it so they don't respond. It's not a sign of insanity or collapsed mental health. Take care of yourself.

That sounds awful, but perhaps you would be more stressed if they were problems you were responsible for.

Run away with the family members you love and start from scratch?

You shouldn't look at this as a negative. Allowing yourself to separate from a harmful situation maybe your only salvation.

I had this issue. I would not have emotions like other people should. For example I never used to miss people, or be sad when something happened to a family member. This all changed when I had to be away from my gf for a summer. After our relationship, I started having these feeling towards people that everyone else had. Weird, don't why.
