THIS NEEDS TO BE READ BY ANYONE WHO SHAVES I work in TV and film. A stylist I worked with gave me a tip about ingrown hairs and other bump issues involved with shaving. YOU MUST MUST MUST EXFOLIATE. THIS MEANS: GET A LOOFA< AND SCRUB THE SHIT OUT OF YOUR FACE AND NECK WHITH A MILD SOAP. YOU SHOULD APPLY MOISTURIZER AFTER. DO THIS EVERY DAY AND THE BUMPS WILL GO AWAY. THE EXFOLIATION RELEASES IN GROWN HAIRS AND OTHER JUNK> DO NOT BUY SCAMMY PRODUCTS THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT WORKS> IF YOU HAVE A BEARD OR ARE STARTING ONE THIS IS ALSO VERY IMPORTANT> I WORKED ON A FILM WHERE EVERYONE HAD BEARDS AND THEY COMPLAINED OF BEARD ITHCH AND PAIN> I HAD THEM ALL ON THE LOOFA AND THERE WAS NO MORE BEARD PAIN AND THE BEARDS WERE ALL SOFT AND FLUFFY> AGAIN _ LOOFA YOUR FACE EVERY DAY - IN THE SHOWER IS EASIST/FUNNEST. I HOPE YOU DO THIS> TAKE CARE OF YOUR FACE. sorry for yelling but in this case i think it was called for

Do you use aftershave? You might want to try some. Edit: it seems the cooling lotion is an aftershave-like product. Maybe try changing your brand of aftershave. Also, do you go against or with the grain of the hair? I used to have problems when I went against it, but after switching to go with the hair, I have stopped having nearly as many problems.

I might offer a different tactic to your skin irritation problem, because it is probably more of a oily face problem. Try using hydrogen peroxide instead of aftershave (it might burn for a second). Aftershave is full of extra BS, where the H2O2 is pure face sterilization. If that seems to work better, but not fully, you can step it up a notch and use some diluted rubbing alcohol. BUT and this is a big but, the rubbing alcohol should not be used regularly, it can damage your skin. So when your bumps are gone, just try and keep your skin clean (change your pillow often). Best of luck. Oh, and like others mentioned, its hot water before you shave and cold water after.

I use an electric beard trimmer (NOT an electric razor, those things are garbage). Three advantages: 1.) much faster 2.) no irritation 3.) leaves a nice looking, very short stubble. You can get a decent one for $20-$30 I do still use a razor above my lip, however. I've been doing this for a few years now, and I plan on doing it forever

Also, in case it isn't incredibly obvious, make sure you clean your razor after every use. Otherwise, you'll just ground all of the bacteria on it into your skin when you shave.

Are you black? I worked in a drugstore for years and sold many cans of bump-preventing shaving products marketed exclusively to black men.

Pimples are for gangsters!

You know, it could be a skin sensitivty issue more than a rough shave. Some of those shaving gels and aftershave lotions have gluten/wheat in them. If you have even a mild gluten intolerance they can irritate your skin. It could be a different ingredient for you, but something to investigate. Try a different type and check the ingredient label carefully for anything that could be bothering you.

Electric razors are shit. And its most likely ingrown hairs or razor burn not pimples. Practically the same thing though. . .

Do you shave before or after you shower? I had some issues ingrown hairs/razor burn/pimples when I shaved before showering. Once I switched to during or after showering, it seemed to help out a lot. Your pores open up from the heat & there's less tug & pull, less irration & nicking yourself. I found that it also gives you a closer shave.
