Say, how long (without any savings) have you gone without a job or unemployment? How did you get by?

I had no savings when I lost my job so I broke my lease that month and moved in with family. They lived several states away so moving was an immediate expense, but I saved money on rent and food which definitely took away some stress. Nearly all money went straight to bills (ended up borrowing a bit from my family too) and looking for work became my new job. I applied for anything and everything until finally landing something entry level. Put all your free time into the search and good luck!

it's been 4 months to the day with my 60k-year job. I moved back home, stopped driving places, Learned to cook. Took out my 401k, made some money with the 401k with pennystocks and ebay stuff. Learned to drink alone/at home for cheap. Did I mention the cheap booze?

I was homeless for a good six months. It wasn't so bad -- it's amazing how much you can save when you're not shelling out cash on an apartment or a house.

I haven't had this problem yet as I haven't had to support myself yet. I fear for the day that I do have to keep a job in order to support myself. Good luck to you though.
