Back in the day, the folks who really resisted technology were mostly the ones who just had a deep-seated fear of breaking something. I remember my uncle was the classic example; he would stare at a mouse like it was some kind of alien tech. He kept a mountain of paper files and swore up and down that he was faster with his typewriter and a rotary phone than anyone could ever be with a desktop setup. He wasn't necessarily slow or old-fashioned in his thinking, he just didn't see the point in learning a "new language" when the old one worked just fine for him.

Then there were the managers who treated computers like a personal insult. They viewed the keyboard as something reserved for the admin staff. They’d have their assistants print out every single email they got just so they could read it on paper and write their replies by hand. It was a weird power dynamic, honestly. They felt like they were above the actual mechanics of digital work, but deep down, they were just terrified of looking incompetent in front of the younger crowd who already knew all the shortcuts.

Most of these people eventually gave in once smartphones became standard, but the transition was definitely painful for them. It’s funny looking back because now we do everything on screens that fit in our pockets, but at the time, seeing someone treat a PC like it was a ticking bomb was a pretty common sight in most offices. They weren't bad people, just creatures of habit who thought the digital shift was just a passing fad that would somehow just vanish if they ignored it long enough.

Back in my early days, the "I don't use computers" crowd was mostly made up of people in their 50s and 60s who just refused to budge. I remember my own uncle being the classic example. He acted like the screen was some kind of black magic or a threat to his way of doing things. He’d insist on doing everything with pen and paper, claiming he didn't need any "glowing box" to manage his daily business or keep track of his stuff.

It was honestly pretty frustrating seeing them struggle with basic things that took us seconds. My dad’s friends were the same, always making jokes about how they were "too old" to learn new tricks. They were convinced that everything was just a passing fad. Looking back, it’s funny because now they’re the ones constantly sending us weird chain messages on their phones all day long.
